Forever Learning

What another week of steep learning, I swear it is harder to train habits out of us humans than it is to train them out of dogs.
We shot of to Nick Gregory at Hamptworth on sunday morning to use his fabulous rabbit pen and to gain more knowledge from him. With Jay Jay's time out through injury and her work on the shoot, she needs to be brought back into full form and to learn and gain more experience before the start of the new season. Being only 20 months old, she had just 3 shoot days (only 2 full days) this season, which has given her experience and the knowledge that she now knows exactly what she wants to do, which is to
We came away from Nick's with 3 lovely stop to flush under Jay Jay's belt, and some more subtle ways of handling for me to learn.
So this week I have been implementing David Lisett 'hand calming methods',which seems to take up to and over 20 minutes before it works for the first time each day but there afterward just a moment or two, leaving her calm to except all commands. I am also trying to get my brain to except the slightly, but different hand movements that I now need to do. Jay Jay has already clicked what they mean but she is more than likely thinking, 'why does mum keep reverting back to the old way', to which my reply would be 'Because I'm getting on now and old habits die hard,' he he he!
These are the times when I thoroughly enjoy going out with Bella & Alfie with their sons and daughters and their owners owners of course.
Last friday Tracy came over with Rhett (Alfie and Bella's son) and we went of for a walk in the fields. Rhett is such a Handsome boy and his owners are training him to work finding people as part of a 'Rescue Team', how wonderful is that.
This Friday Nicky came across with Honey and Henry (also Alfie and Bella's children) and we went of into the woods, they all have such great fun together. Henry often knocks his dad flying whilst his running around, and Alfie also knocked Honey flying today proving boys are the worst drivers, he he he. While Honey is just adorable, yes I'm bias, I love all our puppies but Honey looks the spit of my Mia so holds a special place in my heart.
